Parliamentary Committee Begins Oversight Tour of ZIMSEC Facilities with Focus on Infrastructure, Security, and Reforms

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee for Primary and Secondary Education conducted a fact-finding tour of Zimsec facilities starting with the newly built Matabeleland South Regional Office.

Purpose and Objectives of the PPC Tour of Zimsec facilities

As mandated by Section 141 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, which obligates Parliament to facilitate public involvement in its oversight processes, this inquiry aims to:

  1. Assess Infrastructure: Evaluate the adequacy of ZIMSEC’s facilities—from printing centers to regional offices—and identify gaps requiring immediate intervention.
  2. Investigate Security Measures: Scrutinize protocols safeguarding examination materials, including storage, distribution, and handling, to prevent leaks and malpractice.
  3. Enhance Operational Efficiency: Identify bottlenecks in ZIMSEC’s processes and collaborate with stakeholders to implement actionable improvements.
  4. Inform Legislative Action: Gather evidence to refine the forthcoming Zimbabwe School Examinations Council Amendment Bill, ensuring it addresses systemic challenges sustainably.
